"Blanc" (1994) - Movie screening Saturday 27feb after class

Saturday 27feb
16h45
at Nyin-Dah Yoga Studio
after the 15.00-16.30 yoga class
we will project "Blanc" (1994) from Kieslowski's triology "Three Colours".

Although Three Colours is a trilogy, there is no need to watch "Bleu" to understand "Blanc".

"Blanc" (white in English) is the second movie of the Three Colours trilogy and illustrates the second theme: Equality.
As with “Bleu” and “Rouge”, “White” contains numerous images that at first appear not to be connected but are actually flashbacks or flash-forwards to the other films in the trilogy.

There is frequent use of its title colour, too. This transmits a white mood, alternately hopeful (clarity, innocence…) and cold (snow, stone, the pigeon droppings that rain on Karol early in the film…).

For the music, this time Preisner will capture us under a white embrace…
You’ll have to judge the rest on Saturday… Kieslowski has always a surprise for you…

"Enlighten up!" (2008) - Movie screening Sunday 7feb 19h00

Sunday 7feb
19h00
at Nyin-Dah Yoga Studio
we will project "Enlighten up!" (2008) , a funny movie about yoga.

We will order food to have dinner after the movie.
Please, arrive on time, since the door must be closed for security reasons.

About the movie:
This is quite a funny movie about a stereotypical western-minded someone trying to understand yoga. To me, the most valuable point of the movie is to see the actual famous yoga masters sharing their commentaries and opinions.

Here is the synopsis taken from the official webpage:
Filmmaker Kate Churchill is determined to prove that yoga can transform anyone. Nick Rosen is skeptical but agrees to be her guinea pig. Kate immerses Nick in yoga, and follows him around the world as he examines the good, the bad and the ugly of yoga. The two encounter celebrity yogis, true believers, kooks and world-renowned gurus. Tensions run high as Nick’s transformational progress lags and Kate’s plan crumbles. What unfolds and what they discover is not what they expected.

Featuring: B.K.S. Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois, Norman Allen, Sharon Gannon, David Life, Gurmukh, Dharma Mitra, Cyndi Lee, Alan Finger, Rodney Yee, Beryl Bender Birch, Shyamdas, Diamond Dallas Page and many more!

Teachers

Joyce - Tsering Om!

When someone asks me where I am from, I answer: "I am half French, half Italian, born in Barcelona (Catalunya, Spain)... and now I am Bhutanese." :D

I met yoga in 1996 during University studies in Barcelona. From the first class, I felt a very strong connection with Yoga and never stopped practicing it.

I am a neuroscientist, I study plasticity in the brain and the visual system. Although at the beginning of my life as a researcher I thought science was the way to contribute to humanity, I now believe in a more subtle way to make my actions beneficial to the world, and Yoga has a lot to do with it. That's why Yoga has become more and more a central part of my life.

After my hard-working 4 years of PhD in The Netherlands, I strongly felt it was time to deeply jump into yoga. During my 2.5 years of post-doc in Japan, I had the chance to find Sun and Moon, a magic place in Tokyo where one gets immense inspiration, especially from Leza Lowitz, my wonderful teacher. Soon after I took my teacher training at Sun and Moon, Tanuki Yoga was created: I started teaching. During these last 3 years, I have continously taken workshops and teacher trainings (Paul Grilley's and Sarah Powers' Yin Yoga or Jonas Westring's Thai-yoga, for example) to keep on learning and get inspired.
Not long ago, I landed in Bhutan.
All my gratitude to the "karmic forces" that brought me here and gave me the beautiful challenge to set up Nyin-Dah Yoga Studio!

To me, yoga is union in a sense of alignment, of balance. Yoga guides you towards aligning yourself with yourself, reaching balance within Nature. With practice, your body, your mind, your wishes trustfully gain the connection with your inner self.

I believe in interconnection. I believe that everyone's practice will not only benefit oneself but the whole world. Asana helps us breathe; deep balanced breathing makes the mind clear and focussed; a focussed mind leads us to awareness and mindful actions; and mindful actions can only result in a meaningful world.

In my classes, I give wide explanations and really try to transmit the essence of yoga through
Asana (physical exercise), Pranayama (breathing exercises), Meditation. A lot of importance is given into bringing awareness of body posture, breathing, and mind.

Namaste,

Joyce!

We have different yoga styles at Nyin-Dah Yoga Studio.
Here is a brief description of each style we are happy to share with you. Check on the schedule which style we are offering at the moment:

HATHA YOGA - Hatha means “Sun and Moon” or "Nyin-Dah". In Sanskrit, ha means “Sun” and tha means ” Moon”, two opposites forming a balanced union. Yoga is a place where to find balance and inner Peace. The practice of Yoga balances the left and right, yin and yang, feminine and masculine, Sun and Moon in ourselves by centering the prana (or "life energy" present in all of us).
In this class, the poses are held long in order to work on body alignment and awareness.
This is the style Dr. John teaches in his classes.

VINYASA FLOW - This is a dynamic practice, where breath and movement are combined linking one yoga posture to another. In Sanskrit, vi means ”in a special way,” and nyasa means “to place.” Vinyasa literally means “to place in a special way.” It is a kind of “flow” of movement following the rhythm of the inhalation and exhalation.
In this class, there is no specific sequence, poses rather emerge spontaneously from the flow. New Asanas will be introduced now and then for which the class will be prepared in previous sessions. This dynamic practice will make you move, sweat, and smile...!

TIBETAN HEART YOGA - The Tibetan Heart Yoga system is rooted in a lineage started by Master Naropa, a yogi who lived around 1100 AD. This style is unique as it combines modern and ancient asanas (poses) and strong wisdom derived from the Yoga teachings of the Dalai Lamas of Tibet.
In Tibetan Heart Yoga, the inner and outer methods are combined to create a powerful practice. We work from the inside with our thoughts and from the outside with our asana (poses) and pranayama (breathing). The intention with which we practice the asana is regarded as the most important element of the THY practice. This is a dynamic class.

YIN YOGA - Yin Yoga focuses on stretching the connective tissue that forms our joints. In order to do that, poses are held for long periods (3-5 min) making it a deeper practice. Since strengthening the muscles is not the main target, there is very little movement involved.
Yin Yoga was developed by Paul and Suzee Grilley based on Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama's Meridian Theory.
In this class, we'll hold Asanas for a long time focussing on areas that tend to get tight, such as hips and lower back. Such a quiet practice invites inner exploration of body sensations and provides space to calm the mind.

RESTORATIVE YOGA - In this practice, with the help of props such as bolsters, blankets, straps, sandbags, your body is fully supported and able to completely relax and open in a yoga pose. Having no muscles involved, you will release deep tension and regain energy and balance. These simple supported poses are held for long periods of time.
Restorative sessions are ideal (not only) for when you feel tired.

MATERNITY YOGA - Maternity yoga is an effective and safe set of exercises that leads the practitioner into a healthy body during pregnancy. Yoga poses, breathing and meditation not only prevent minor trouble during pregnancy but also help gain harmony within mind and body as well as physiological balance at the level of the nervous and immune system. Maternity yoga will also have a positive effect after childbirth, making it easier to regain a good shape.
In this class, we’ll work with gentle asanas (yoga poses), breathing and meditation with the aim to prevent any minor troubles and contribute to a comfortable pregnancy and safe childbirth. We offer post-natal yoga as well for new mothers.
It is advised to practice pre-natal Yoga from the 14th week of pregnancy until childbirth and post-natal Yoga from the second month after delivery.
(Partners are welcome to take part in the class, as long as all participants agree.)

KUNDALINI - Kundalini yoga is a technology of human consciousness that aims to awaken your awareness and help your true nature unfold. The practice of Kundalini yoga combines: Hatha, Raja, Bhakti, Laya, Jappa and Shakti Yoga. Kundalini yoga teaches you how to gain a strong immune system, vital glands, and nervous system, good circulation and awareness of the impact of your habits. It develops your relationship to your mental potential and teaches you how to use the clarity of the neutral, intuitive, comprehensive mind.
It is one of the fastest way to establish a healthy relationship between your body, mind and soul. The most important thing in Kundalini yoga is your experience. It goes right to your heart and no words can describe it. What is Kundalini? Simply, it is creative potential of the human being.

IYENGAR INSPIRED - Iyengar yoga is a sort of Hatha yoga, with focus on giving primary attention to the physical body alignment. To attain good alignment props (such as blankets, bolsters, blocks, belts...) are used when the body is not enough opened yet. Asanas (poses) are held for considerably longer time, while physical alignment is being perfected. Holding the asanas builds physical strength and is excellent for increasing flexibility. The balance created in the body is reflected in the mind as well.
In this class, we warm-up with Sun Salutations and gentle poses and progress into the Iyengar style asanas held for longer time focussing on alignment.
